YOUNG AUSSIES’ WINNING ART FEATURE IN NEW MUSIC VIDEO
Global movement Art in Nature releases first-ever Australian music video starring national competition winners’ nature-inspired artworks
Not-for-profit Australia Art in Nature has today launched its animated music video featuring 33 young Australians’ artworks as the culmination of a national competition which saw 710 entries submitted from Groote Eylandt to Tasmania and everywhere in between.
The visually stunning video features an animated sequence of chosen artworks and draws
inspiration from Australia’s natural landscapes. It’s accompanied by an original song composed by Australian singer-songwriter Corinne Gibbons and Ella Spira MBE, co-founder of global creative production company Sisters Grimm, who are behind the project.
The soundtrack also features narration from Aboriginal Elder and activist Oswald “Ossie” Cruse MBE AM (Uncle Ossie).
“We need to live by a code. A code of respect. You must respect yourself first. You must respect your school teacher. You must respect your environment,” said Uncle Ossie.
In a nod to the environmental heart of the project, which has been held for the first time in Australia, the video release comes on World Water Day.
“We have been so blown away by the beautiful pieces of artwork, and, more importantly, from the diversity of under 18s who have shared their stories as well as their art. It was incredibly tough to narrow the entries down – in our view everyone is a winner and every piece is featured on our online gallery, with the young artists receiving a special certificate” said Spira.
Entries ranged from pre-schoolers to older teenagers and remote community school art groups who responded to the project’s theme of connecting art and the environment.
“Thank you so much (Australia Art in Nature), these creative moments are honestly vitally important. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to express their ideas about issues that are important to them through art,” Marist College Eastwood art teacher Dani Spurr.
Australia is the second market to be a part of the Art in Nature movement, with Sisters Grimm launching the initial project in UAE, where more than 3.5 million around the world viewing the resulting music video.
